Foreign media have criticized South Korea’s SBS TV station Korean KBS for calling itself "shame"

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) South Korea’s SBS TV station, which broadcast the rehearsal footage of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, apologized to the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee yesterday. The rehearsal shots taken by SBS include the giant earth rising from the center of the stage, the whale swimming at the top of the venue, the actors dancing on giant scrolls, and performances such as Tai Ji Chuan, drumming and ribbon dancing. This move by Korean TV stations has also been criticized by overseas media.

According to a report in Lianhe Zaobao, SBS broadcasted a 2-minute clip on the news every other night after filming a rehearsal scene that China regarded as a "state secret" on July 28th. The video began to circulate on the Internet on the 30th, and the video on Youtube attracted more than 50,000 people to browse. Youtube’s statement says that a "third party" has made a copyright claim, so the film can no longer be used. Several online discussion forums in China also contained the video, but most of them have been deleted or cannot be played.

Gospar, chairman of the IOC Press Committee, was shocked when he learned that the rehearsal was leaked. He said that SBS’s behavior is the first time in Olympic history, which not only destroys the tacit understanding, but also "takes away" people’s pleasure in expecting surprises.

As for whether sanctions will be imposed on SBS, relevant persons of the International Olympic Committee said that broadcasters may negotiate this matter. Kim hyun-cheol, the leader of South Korea’s joint broadcaster, said that SBS’s behavior was improper and should be punished.

Kim hyun-chul is also the general coordinator of KBS, another TV station in South Korea. He said: "Although this incident was not caused by KBS, we are ashamed of the improper behavior of the members of the Korean broadcasting consortium. SBS has received protests from the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee, and we are also discussing the punishment measures against them. "

According to Lianhe Zaobao, SBS is one of the three TV stations in South Korea that won the right to broadcast the Beijing Olympic Games. After the clip was broadcast, SBS originally insisted that the company staff did not sneak shots. A spokesman for SBS said earlier yesterday: "We are currently understanding the situation in Beijing. This report on the rehearsal scene is not for other purposes. We want to let the Korean audience know about the grand occasion of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games and set off an Olympic craze in South Korea. But if it causes unhappiness, we regret it. "

An employee of the station, who asked not to be named, said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press that they were not prevented from entering the venue on Monday, but were allowed to enter the venue after showing their certificates, so they filmed the rehearsal. Another SBS sports reporter told Reuters in Seoul: "We arrived at the scene and no one stopped us, so we took a picture."

Gosper said that although broadcasters are allowed to carry equipment for testing in the rehearsal of the opening ceremony, the tacit understanding between Olympic convention and broadcasters has never been to disclose the opening ceremony content in advance.

South Korea’s "Central Daily News" report also admitted that the rehearsal scene of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games broadcast by SBS had "caused a storm".
